Hope somebody can help here!
I was working on a computer that was experiencing a rundll error message
on reboot. I subsequently was able to fix that error but in doing so
I reloaded Win98. Now, here is the problem I'm experiencing......
The computer owner uses AOL. Now, you can dialup AOL and get email
and apparently any content except browsing. When I enter a URL, I get
a message like the server is down. (The URL used was
www.ebay.com so
I know it was up). If I get out of the AOL software and run Internet
Explorer, I get the same result. When I run Netscape, I get a message
that it's unable to connect to a network socket.
As part of my trouble shooting, I setup a non-AOL dialup account and I'm
able to log into that account but I get the same result when I try to
browse. I tried pinging a known good IP and it failed. So I'm sure
DNS is not the problem. I've tried deleting all network items like
dialup adapters, TCPIP services and re-installing but the result is
unchanged.
I have a pretty good dent in the wall from beating my head. Anybody
have any ideas?
