I have a desktop with XP Pro SP2 and a laptop with W2K SP4 .

The desktop is connected to the Web using an external ADSL broadband
modem ( a ZyXEL Prestige R231-T1 ) and an Ethernet card .

I want to be able to connect the laptop wirelessly to the desktop.

To enable the desired wireless broadband hookup I've just bought a
Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz router ( model No: WRT 54GS ) a
Wireless-G PCI Adapter card ( Model No: WMP54GS ) which is installed
in the desktop and a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter Card ( model
No: WPC54GS ) which is inserted in the laptop.

I have now got the router setup and linked to the external DSL modem
so that I am able to connect to the Web as before with the sole
difference now that the Web connection is now through both the ADSL
modem and the router . The router is connected to the desktop through
one of its ports to an Ethernet card in the desktop by means of the
supplied cable.

I have installed the software for the desktop PCI Adapter card and
also for the laptop Notebook Adapter Card and there is an icon in the
Sys Tray in the laptop which , when clicked , gives an indication of a
good signal .

I cannot , however , get the laptop to access the web through this
wireless connection between the desktop and the laptop !!

Although I seem to have this strong wireless connection between the 2
machines now - do I still have to go through the LAN setup routine in
order to get the connection ?

Can anyone tell me what I have failed to do here , please ?

Since my original post , when I click on the wireless card icon which
is installed in the desktop I get the message :-

"Successfully connected to Access Point and Internet "

When I click on the laptop wireless card icon I get the message :-

"You are connected to the Accesss Point but the Internet
cannot be found "

What do I need to do to get the laptop to access the Internet through
the Access Point ?

I presume this " Access Point " is the router .

This has now been resolved due to re-ordering the various IP
addresses.
