Problem with a wireless network

the occasional detail might help, like the models and verisons of
hardware and software involved and what the precise error messages and
codes are. What can and can't you do and what are the IP addresses of
all the bits and pieces.

Hi there,

Ages ago with the help of this group I got my wireless network working. Now
it doesnt work properly, and I cant figure out why. I had to disconnect
everything, while the power company altered something somewhere near. Since
then, all of the connections will come online, and then go off or go to
limited connectivity. My direct connection from this machine is the only
way I can connect to the internet now. Anything connected directly to the
router is able to connect to the internet and see the other pc, etc, but
anything wireless wont stay connected.

Any suggestions appreciated, I'm pulling my hair out over this one!

Hi there,

My clocks fine, its just set in another timezone so I know what time it is
there without counting back.

My wireless card is a Edimax RT2500. My router is an Edimax AR-7024Wg, 4
other computer all have the same wireless cards, and one has a D-link 108g
something or other, and one has a d-link G650+.

Versions of windows happen to be XP Pro and 2k.

The only error that I get is one telling me that I am connected, but with
limited or no connectivity. Then the connection goes offline (the little
computer boxes down on the right or in the network connections box). Then
it re-aquires the network same error, then goes off again. Comes on and off
about once every 30 seconds or so.

I've tried setting IP addresses, and I've tried automatic ones. My range
starts at 192.168.200.100 for the router, and the machines are in steps of
10 after that.

so can you ping the router from one of the machines. What default
gateway and DNS server settings does an example machine have. Can you
ping back to the machine from a wired machine, etc.

Have you any wireless security enabled ?

Hi Phil,

I cna ping the router only when it is wired in, otherwise I can ping it when
I use the wireless card but it only gets a reply for the first one or two
attempts. For the rest of them it will not stay connected long enough to do
anything.

I didnt put in any DNS settings. My gateway was 255.255.255.0

Wired machines will happily ping one another, but when you try and do
wireless, you have to get both of them on at the same time, and then only
the first reply works then they go offiline.

if you have set manual IP addresses then you need a Subnet mask like
255.255.255.0 and a Default Gateway that is the router ie
192.168.200.100 and DNS server that is either the router or the ISP
DNS servers.

Type 'ipconfig /all' from a DOS prompt ('cmd' in Run box of Start) and
it shows what's what. Cut & paste one here.

Also look at the wireless strength indicators. Try switching the
router to Channel 1 in case its interference.
