Hello,

I have a problem with the Windows 2000 Pro Internet Sharing Service.
I have a Windows 2000 box connected to Internet via ADSL using PPP-OE.
This box is configured as 192.168.0.1 and Internet Connection is shared.

I have a second box running under Linux (192.168.0.114) and having the
Windows box as default Gateway.

The problem is that, sometimes, when I try to access http or ftp
servers, my Linux Box send a SYN request which is well transmitted to
the server by the gateway. But when the gateway receive the SYN_ACK It
doesn't transmit it to the Linux Box (verified with Ethereal). It
happens sometimes and after few retries (Click again on the link or
reload) it works. Does anybody have a solution for this problem ?

For information I had the same problem when the second box was under
Windows 2K Pro.

Thanks

Switch places and use the linux box as a router.

The problem is that the Linux box as a hardware problem (UDMA 66
Controller) so it is not stable at all. I need my connection all the day
long, so I cannot use the Linux Box as router

UDMA 66 and up are generally quite stable under Linux. This is getting
off-topic for both groups, but unless you're using a really old kernel
and distro, you should be able to use UDMA 66 without problems. Upgrade
your kernel to 2.4.21 and see how it goes.

Put linux on the W2K box?

Alternatively, do you have some kind of firewall on the Windows
internet facing interface that could be misbehaving? Also, how do you know the
syn ack is getting to the windows device. Are both interfaces on the same
ethernet segment?

Yes the driver is stable, it is a hardware problem (tested on another
computer and with anoter OS)

Cannot pour Linux on the W2K box, because it is used by other people in
my house.
I have the same problem without firewall.
I know the SYN ACK is getting to the Windows device because I see it
when I capture the frames with Ethereal
Both Interfaces are on the same ethernet Segment
