problem win98 to xp

i have tried to connect two pc's ,one win 98 (master machine,with cabel
modem) to a xp machine

i can see files on the xp machine but for some reason this machine will not
connect to internet,i have used the network wizard on xp and ran it on the
win98 machine it goes through the process as far as i can tell okay but
still no connection.

this is my first attempt at this so any help in this matter would be
appreciated,,tried a few help pages on the net but no two seem the same.

i am using net work cards and a cross over cable.

XP's network wizard can't configure a 98 master machine to share its
cable modem. Configure 98 as shown here:

If it's possible, I strongly recommend using XP, not 98, as the master
machine.
