Problem upgrading firmware on D-Link DSL-504

I've got a DSL-504 modem with the 1.13 firmware and am trying to upgrade it.
The firmware upgrade utility is supposed to discover the device
automatically, but doesn't find my device. My computer is directly connected
to the device and I can log into it using a browser. Firewall and AV are
switched off.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

Does the upgrade utility find anything at all? It might perhaps come up as
your network card rather than your modem by name.

Are you sure you have the correct version of the firmware and not a USA or
Australian version?

Nope, doesn't find anything *at all*. I downloaded the firmware from
dlink.co.uk (and it has "uk" in the filename), so I'm guessing it's OK. I
bought the modem from a UK supplier originally (and it came with UK plug,
etc) so I'm guessing the installed firmware will also be UK.

I struggled with my Dlink.
I called D-link technical support and they were more than happy to help and
ran me through upgrading the firmware.
