Hi,

I’m going to try to explain the problems we face using,DL 380-G5 which
deployed by us for www.xxxx.com web portal.

To Summarize the situation in short:
www.xxxx.com web page is built on 7 servers using Windows 2003 operating
system. This system is based on Round Robin DNS defination for bandwith
balancing. This web page takes about 1.000.000 hit per day and that makes
60mbit i/o per server.

As you all know Nc373i Toe capable Ethernet Adapter comes with DL385 G5
embeded

Solutions We Try:

1- We start servers with TOE and RSS services disabled

Result:
After Servers being monitored we realise that without these properties servers
Cpu is being overloaded about %70.This result is nearly same with DC7600PC’s
Test results replaced with servers on web portal. Thus results annoyed our
costumer so far.

Note:Web portal is being used by around 6.000 to 12.000 users acvite
connections through the day.

2-Ethernet Adapdetrs TOE and RSS properties enabled again after all drivers
Firmwares are being installed for Nc373i Ethernet adapter and G5 servers.
After those we try to solve the problem using definations and solutions on
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912222 thread .

Result:
After long time useges we observe that network response of the server being
slowed down and then server stop giving responses to connections. When we
restart the server that problem is being solved for some time but occured
again after long time useges.Because of the DNS Round Robin property even if
one server is down like that all users connected to the portal received page
cannot be displayed error.

In conclusion I come to this decition about the problem:

As you know TOE property is only supported isn Windows production family.

Tcp packeges received by Windows2003 is being carried via TCPIP.sys to its
proccesor. When KB912222 hotfix applied for TOE property NC373i CPU on G5
server start to receive the packeges. After heavy network activity problem
occurs in this forwarding system and thus stops the server from responsing.

IT Department decided not to use G5 Server family until this problem is
being solved.

Can you have any solution?

Thanks and best regards.

we have same problem on our HP DL380 G4.
we use Win2003 R2 x64 SP2 as DNS server with standard windows firewall.

i suppose the problem in windows firewall, because the NIC get the DNS
requests but response of PING and DNS is not sending to client.

i will try to install other firewall solution of windows.
