If the ADSL modem connects using an Ethernet adapter and PPPoE, be
sure to share the PPPoE connection, not the Ethernet connection.

If that's not the solution, please run these tests to help find the
problem:

1. On the XP computer, right click the local area network connection
(not the shared connection) and click Status | Support | Details. It
should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On the 98 computer, go to Start | Run | Winipcfg, select the
network adapter from the drop-down menu, and click More Info. It
should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on the 98
computer and enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.100
ping www.google.com

The network beetween xp machine and win 98 machine is working very well for
everything except the internet access.

The adsl modem is connected on the xp machine and working.

The internet access is shared.

Impossible to connect win 98 machine to internet trough the xp machine.

Help.

Thanks.

I'm sure to share the PPPoE connection.

#1 and #2 are right.

I don't know what a command prompt window is and how to open it.

Thanks in advance.

Click Start | Run, type "command" in the box, and click OK. Type the
"ping" commands, pressing Enter after each one. Type the "exit"
command to close the window.
