I am using ICS on one pc and on that pc, i have 2 printers connected and i
have shared folders that other pc's can access.

I have 2 computers connect via network cabling to this pc.

I can connect to the internet and use the printers on all computers
connected to the ICS pc, but on one pc i recently formatted, i cannot access
the shared folders.
An error keeps appearing saying i may not have permission. I see the PC in
workgroup computer, but i cannot open that PC.

How would i sort this out?

Many thanks

Stuart

I'm not sure how to sort your file sharing problem, but how to get
your pc's to share a printer? (see my previous thread 30/4/2005)

Many thanks

i did have trouble locating the printer, so i manually typed in the location
of the printer.

the location of my printer for instance is this:-

\\Weather-main\Brother HL-2030 series

I filled this in after selecting i wanted to install a network printer and
then filled in the "Connect to this printer" box.

Hope that helps.

I had to do this on my mum's wireless network (similar, if not same network
as yours) as well as tho all the computers were on the same workgroup, the
printer could not be found, but putting it in manually found the buggers!

Thanks for the heads up. I've tried the manual method, \itried re-name
the printer, deleting all printers on the laptop and starting again.

But I still cannot print wirelessly from my laptop.

Any further pointers?

I have uninstalled the printer drivers from the laptop - still no docs
being printed.

Should I consider a wireless printer server?

well havent you?

I have recently found a workaround for the problem that seems to be
relatively common where you cannot browse the workgroup. In my case it was
the Windows XP firewall that caused the problem. Whether this is the same in
your case depends on your configuration. If you are using another third part
firewall e.g. Kerio 4 or one of the others that disables the Windows
firewall then this is not the answer.

I have three computers and only one was running the Windows firewall (one of
the others is running CA's version of Zone alarm and the other MacAfee both
of which turn the Windows firewall off) . The Exceptions for Windows
file/print sharing show 4 ports and each of these shows that it should allow
its own network. I discovered that it was rejecting a packet broadcast from
itself when the firewall was active (combination of the firewall log and
Ethereal). Changing the network to Custom and entering the address in the
form 192.168.x.0/255.255.255.0 (change x to your own network number) cured
the problem. There is no logical reason for this - the values entered should
be identical to Own Network.

Regards
John Steele
