problem with remote connection to my server

I have administative priviliges to my corporate network. When I am in my
intranet I can put in my gateway address and connect to my network through my
Sonicwall. I have VPN Client Software, but cannot connect through it for
reasons unknown to me @ this time(trying to connect from home). My question
is why can I not access my gateway by putting the address into IE and getting
the screen that asks for the user name and password to access my network
through my Sonicwall.
I ask because I cant seem to get my VPN software to work and if I could get
access to a login screen for my network I could access it with administration
user and password. ANY IDEAS please let me know
