I've been trying to get a BT Home Network 1200 wireless router to work but I
can't, and I was wondering if it had design limitations. There's a RJ45 port
at the back of this router which (as I understand it) connects to an
ethernet. I am using the BT 1200 as just a receiver. It's not connected to a
phone line.
I have a laptop with Windows XP and a BT Voyager 1020 card in it. I used to
have BT adsl but now I have blueyonder/telewest broadband. I have a Dell
desktop PC which plugs via ethernet patch cable into a Linksys DSL router,
which is then connected to the blueyonder cable modem. I should be able to
connect the 1200 router to the linksys router with a patch cable and surf
the net but somehow the 1200 router will not surf. I just keep getting 'Page
not available'.The signal strength on the laptop is exellent. From the
laptop - using 172.16.1.33 I can access the 1200 router interface. And using
then 192.168.1.1 I can access the Linsys router interface. But I can't get
beyond that. The Dell desktop PC surfs fine. The Linksys router is correctly
configured for multiple PC's to surf the net, and just to check this I
connected the laptop directly to the Linksys router with a patch cable and
it surfed fine.
Does anyone know what the blockage is with the BT 1200?

You need all your IP addresses in the same range;

eg:-
DSL router: 192.168.1.1
BT Home Network 1200: 192.168.1.20
laptop 192.168.1.21: default gateway 192.168.1.1

all netmasks set to 255.255.255.0

Should do the trick.
