I have a little problem at hand. I want to network a
computer running 98 SE with a computer Running XP. I set
up the network on the XP comp (#2) first. Then i tried a
network disk. WHen i did so, it said i had to restart,
ok. But when it restarted, it should have completed, but
instead it says it can not complete it because it can not
find the hardware (everything is installed, so we can
rule that out). Next i tried a second time, and used my
XP disc, it "worked" but i can not communicate with or
share files/printer with it. Anyone know what to do?

For reasons that I don't understand, XP's Network Setup Wizard
occasionally refuses to run, can't find a valid network card, or
otherwise messes up on a Windows 95/98/Me computer.

I recommend starting fresh with the network on 98 SE. Go to Control
Panel | Network, remove these network components, then reboot and
re-install them:

Client for Microsoft Networks
Network Card
File and Printer Sharing

Then, configure XP's network settings manually, without using the
Wizard:

1. Add the TCP/IP protocol if it isn't already there.

2. Go to the TCP/IP->NIC properties and configure it to obtain an IP
address automatically.

Then, share the desired disks/folders/printers.
