For reasons that I don't understand, XP's Network Setup Wizard
occasionally refuses to run, can't find a valid network card, or
otherwise messes up on a Windows 95/98/Me computer.
I recommend starting fresh with the network on 98 SE. Go to Control
Panel | Network, remove these network components, then reboot and
re-install them:
Client for Microsoft Networks
Network Card
File and Printer Sharing
Then, configure XP's network settings manually, without using the
Wizard:
1. Add the TCP/IP protocol if it isn't already there.
2. Go to the TCP/IP->NIC properties and configure it to obtain an IP
address automatically.
Then, share the desired disks/folders/printers.
