Hi,

I have used two network patch cables to connect my DVD player to a switch,
but only one works. The one that works is rather long (~10m) and thus I
bought a smaller one (2m) but I can't get it to work. They tested the
pairing of both cables and told me they are the same and working. Now I'm
wondering whether there's a difference between the two cable types I got:

Working Cable: E188601 (UL) TYPE CM 75°C LL84201 CSA TYPE CMG FT4 CAT.5E PATCH CABLE TO TIA/EIA 568A STP 26AWG STRANDED
Broken Cable: YFC FTP CAT.5E PATCH ISO/IEC 11801 & EN 50288 3P VERIFIED FOR GIGABIT ETHERNET - 26AWGx4P TYPE CM (UL) C(UL) CMH E164469

Does anybody now why the one cable works and the other does not?

Paul

Make sure the cable pairs are wired according to spec.
