i hope i didnt double post. i have setup two gateway on my
win98 pc. but to get the second gateway to work. i would
like to manual initial some tcp connection. is that the
correct way of initializing the second gateway? thanks.

I'm sorry, but it isn't possible to use two default gateways. Even if
you define two of them, Windows will only use one. It determines
which one to use by looking at the metrics and picking the one with
the lower metric.

steve, the second gateway is suppose to auto initial if
the first gateway is offline. or izzit i need to initial a
tcp connection in order for the second gateway to start.

Hi Kim,

It sounds like you are trying to implement dead gateway detection. It takes
TCP traffic to trigger DGD.

DGD that's right. but installing two gateway on my pc
while using tcp traffic to trigger DGD seems to be
unstable.
the second gateway connection seems to time out itself
after a while. marc, is there any workaround for this?
can manually adding a persistent route would create a
more stable connection.

You might notice that win98 isn't in the list of applicable operating
systems.
