Problem with local network

This is probably a windows rather than a router problem, but maybe someone
can help anyway?

I've just installed a Linksys BEFSR41 to connect two machines to the net via
a cable modem. Both machines are now online and that is fine. My problem
is that I can't get the two computers to see each other. The router assigns
IPs and they both respond to ping. That means, I think, that the router has
done its job?

I have no experience of networked computers, but I'm not sure why I'm having
so much difficulty. I have XP Pro + SP2 on both. I've run the network
wizards, assigned the same workgroup name, opted for file and printer
sharing, and created shared folders. I assume that the shared folders on
machine 1 should be visible on machine 2 and vice versa?

If I go to My Network Places/View workgroup computers, there is only the
home machine visible on each. I'm the only person who uses the computers,
and I use them as administrator without a password, so I don't actively log
on. Do I now need to start messing around with user accounts and passwords
to get my machines to talk to each other?

Sorry about that. I have the windows firewall disabled and ZoneAlarm
installed on both machines. When I disabled ZoneAlarm the two computers
started talking. Now I just need to re-configure ZoneAlarm.

Set up the IPs of both machines in the Trusted Zone in Zone Alarm
