Is there a problem with gmane news?
I can ping news.gmane.org but haven't been able
to collect news from there for a couple of days.

Has this mailing-list to newsgroup service been discontinued?

I am experiencing problem too. Haven't been able to get messages for my
debian and other mailing lists since sometime yesterday I think.
gmane.org doesn't open and my news client reports "connection refused"
if I try to fetch new messages.

I've just switched to broadband, and at the same time installed a router and
wireless network. As a result, I've had problems with setting up mail and
news-readers so I naturally thought the Kmail message "Unable to connect:
operation now in progress" was somehow my fault. At least that's one thing
I don't have to worry about.
