Hello

I have an on old Compaq Proliant 400 (Pentium3 550) server and have a
problem with integrated Ethernet card. When the server is started
everything works good but after powerdown on next start card is not
functional. Everything starts OK but this card is not linking to
network.
Only way to fix this problem is to disconect server from powersource
for few seconds.
I have found that when i use Intel 'e100' driver everything works
perfectly.

Does anyone have such problem with 'eepro100' driver and knows how to
fix it ?

lspci -v
02:05.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100]
(rev 05)
Subsystem: Compaq Computer Corporation NC3161 Fast Ethernet
NIC (embedded, WOL)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 66, IRQ 10
Memory at 40500000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]
I/O ports at 1c00 [size=32]
Memory at 40000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=1M]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1

Best regards
Dixi

Hi Dixi,

I have exerienced similar problems with Compaqs intergrated ethernet and the
only solution I know of is to install an additional NIC and skip the
integrated eth controller.

I dont mean to be flip, but if the e100 driver works, then just use that.
probably the compaq bios is mistaking it for another type and filling in
the data in pci cfg space incorrectly. Probably the actual hardware is
really more like what the e100 driver expects.
