There is a registry setting "AllowPlainTextPasswords" which had to be
set in Win95 in order to allow Win3.11 clients to access shares because
encryption standards changed then and have again with WinXP.
You may have to set options which are only changeable through "regedit"
(at both ends, perhaps) to make passwords work here.
Even null passwords did not work between Win3.11 and Win95 without
setting that option.
The username may be the problem. Win95 only goes onto networks under one
name, so you may have to log onto it under its own single name only.
