I have a linksys wireless G base station and a linksys wireless G card
for my laptop running XP Home. I don't use encryption at all except the
following:

1> enable MAC address checking
2> enable connection firewall on my laptop

Everytime I turn on my laptop and try to access the internet, I need to
keep 'clicking' connect for about 10 minutes before I get a connection.
The wireless icon keep telling me that there is wireless network available
for connection. However, I have to keep trying to connect about 5-10 minutes
before it finally succeed. Once the connection is made, it is very stable.
Is there any problem with my set up? I am trying this in the same room where
the base station is located and there should not be no transmission issue.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Clement

You don't say how far apart the PC is from the router.
(Try putting them both in the same room and see if problem
goes away.)

The most common cause of that symptom is usually that signals are too
weak, which translates to too far away/too many intervening metal
obstructions,
etc, etc.

I have a similar setup - I installed he most recent XP updates from
Microsoft (accept no substitutes!) and then I also went to Linksys and got
their most recent updates for their card. This solved the problem I had.

Also, for debugging, have you disabled MAC address checking and the
firewall? Try getting it to run without any security at all, then gradually
add the firewall, MAC address, WEP??, etc one step at a time so you know
where the problem surfaces (if it does at all after getting the updates).

Good luck.
