Hi,

I have a Linksys router WRT54GR version 1.1. I have installed the latest
firmware version 1.03.
I have a wired connection to a PC. The PC is dual boot. When I run
Windows 98SE everthing is working fine. When I boot RetHat 9 I can't get
an internet connection. I get the error message:

"Determining IP information for eth0 ... failed.

With other routers (Sitecom broadband router, Thomson speedtouch
router/modem) I had no problems at all when connected to the same PC
running Linux using auto-dhcp.

Does somebody know how I can get my connection working? Why doesn't
auto-dhcp work with this router with Linux?

Erwin

Is the dhcp server/service configured on your Linksys router?

Please try assigning a suitable fixed IP, netmask and gateway addresses
manually; check if that works for you.

Hi,

I tried setting fixed IP, netmask and gateway addresses, but it didn't
work either. I spend several hours and gave up.
Lately I upgraded my Windows version to Windows XP and noticed that XP
does not support my old network card (3Com EtherLink III PCI), because
it's not plug-and-play. So I installed a new network card (Sitecom
LN-027). Now the problem on Linux is gone. Connecting to internet using
auto-dhcp is working without problems with RH9.

Somehow the combination of a WRT54GR, 3Com EtherLink, and Linux (RH9) is
not working.

Is this 3Com EtherLink III PCI card recognized on RH9?

Try lspci and, or dmesg |grep -i 3com
