I have an older Acer Nuovo Notebook that a friend gave me
a while back. I want to "add" this to my LAN so that I
may access thne Internet from around the house.
I have a Netgear MA814 Router with the main computer, a
wirelss connection in the bedroom and want to hook up the
Notebook. The Notebook is running 98 and I purchased an
MA401 Netgear Adapter for it. After some fumbling around,
I was able to access the main computer files with it.
However, I am unable to access the Internet at all. I
spoke with a friend who said that it probably was a DNS,
Gateway problem and to check what the Adapter was using by
entering "WinIPcfg" at the Run prompt. I did and I got an
error message that the program could not be found. As I
had just re-installed 98, I am perplexed. I suspect that
I need to download other options off of the 98 CD under
adding other Micro file options.
Does anyone know what I should download in order to
activate the winipcfg file so that I can check the IP and
Gateway numbers? Also what should I do to change these
numbers if they are incorrect? Any help would be much
appreciated as I am fairly computer literate but not with
LAN's.
Thank you.
