I have a Machine that uses windows 98 I am unable to connect to the internet with this machine. It is connected via ethernet to a hub, from the hub to a router to the DSL modem. The other two computers running XP are working ok, but I can't get the unit with windows 98 to connect. Any Ideas would be helpful. I am somewhat computer literate and have spent several hours via land line talking to msn tech, but because I'm running a network they don't want to talk to me about it. They have no issues helping me once I connect the computer in question directly to the modem, but once I mention the hub and router, the first thing is they can't help me until I hook up the computer directly to the modem. I have a hawkings 8 port hub and a speedstream 2601 router.

- Check the following settings on your WinXP machine, then
duplicate them on your Win98 machine: subnet mask,
default gateway, domain name server.

- Make sure that your IP address is in the same subnet
as the IP address of your XP machine.

- Turn off all your firewalls while testing.

- In Internet Explorer, copy the proxy server settings from
your XP PC to your Win98 PC.
