Hi to all!

I have:

PC1: WinXPpro
PC2: WinME

ROUTER D-Link DI-624 (with WiFi)
ADSL Modem connected to one ISP (Telecom Italia, here in Italy)

The Modem is connected to the router by one ethernet cable.
The router is connected to PC1 through a wireless connection. I can
access the internet, browse and everything for hours from PC1 with no
substantial problems.

The router is connected to PC2 (WinME) through one ethernet cable.

From PC2 I can PING the internet but only with numerical addresses. I
cannot PING site's names. I cannot browse (both with IE and with
Firefox) either by names or by numerical addresses.

Before I bought the router PC2 was connected to the same ADSL modem by
ethernet cable and I had Enternet300 installed (PC1 didn't exist).
Then I unistalled this software (as it was suggested in the booklet
coming with the router) and now I am in this situation.

I have to say that in the meantime I played around a lot unistalling
firewalls I had on PC2 (ZA+ other stuff) and perhaps I did something
wrong.

I list here below the result of IPCONFIG /all from both PC1 and PC2:

IPCONFIG /all from PC1 (under WinXP, conncetion and browsing are OK)

even when I try to connect to the numerical address of the router to
access its configuration menu, which, on the other end, works
perfectly from the other machine) I am sorry that the IPCONFIG
messages are in Italian, here. Anyway: SI means YES and NO means NO.

This is the way the router is setup:

Obviously, I asked many people with no useful progress. I also tried
to play around with DNS addresses in many ways but the result is
always the same: I can PING (numerically) but I cannot browse (both
numerically and by names). I add that I am not interested in
connecting the two machines (for transer of files ecc.) All I want is
to have both of them to access the internet.

Thanks to all!

Maurizio

Problem solved. On the Support section of Microsoft's website I found
that one possible cause of the behaviour of my PC is "winsock
corrupted". I was able to fix it with the help of a nice little
program suggested on the net. The malfunctioning was probably due to
some bad install/uninstall of a piece of software provided earlier by
my ISP.

Ciao,
Maurizio

I have had a very simular issue and wondered what website helped you with the
issue.
My ME pc can't access the router but can access internet. Networking between
my 2 computers won't work either.

you may have spyware
Such errors are often caused by spyware - download AdAware from
www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

also run the LSPFix from here
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Well, Microsoft's website has a support section for each version of
Windows. Just look around, I can't reconstruct the whole path now.
There is a "knowledge database": that's where you should search...

Ciao,
Maurizio
