Problem with adprep and dcpromo

I have a Win 2003 Native domain, for example we will call it
building.org. There used to be a Win 2k server in a child domain
named pclab but the domain no longer exists.

I am setting up a second domain in the forest that will
otherbuilding.org.

In building.org I have 2 Win 2003 servers the Ops Master is a Win 2k3
Enterprise Ed. R1 32bit server but I read online that I should run
adprep from the new server going into ortherbuilding.org because it is
release 2. This morning I put the cd in (R2) and ran adprep /
forestprep /noFileCopy but it failed and said something about could
not find file. So I run adprep /forestprep stripping the no file copy
and it works fine says that the forest has already been preped and no
changes made. I then run adprep /domainprep /noFileCopy same result,
stripping the no file copy and it works fine says that the domain has
already been preped but it must upgrade group policy stuff. I say ok
and it runs for a couple seconds, progress meter moves, it finishes
and reports all well.

I go to the other building, log into the new server running Win 2003
server R2 64bit (don't think this matters but...) I add to the domain
building.org BAM i am a connected member real fast and i reboot.
(here comes the tricky part)

I run dcpromo and tell the server tell it is a new tree in a forest
give it all the info it needs and the domain of otherbuilding.org and
start it running. It connects to the building.org domain and reads
info a few times seems to be going ok for about 30 seconds and then
Whack! i get the following

The operation failed because:
The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the
forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the
Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain.
For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory
Help.
"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is
not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."
This server has been disjoined from domain BUILDING. (Name changed to
protect my innocence)

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Any thoughts on how to over
come this?

R2 is a 2 disk set. Adprep ran from the first CD prepares the domain/forest
for Win 2k3, adprep ran from the second CD prepares the domain/forest for
R2.

Run adprep from the second disk of the R2 set.
