Hi,

I'm fairly new at this, so bear with me.

I'm constantly getting messages in my /var/log/messages saying this:
Sep 2 17:19:34 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_OUTOFRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:35 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_INRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:42 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_OUTOFRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:43 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_INRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:51 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_OUTOFRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:51 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_INRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:54 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_OUTOFRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:19:54 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_INRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:20:02 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_OUTOFRANGE (unhandled)
Sep 2 17:20:04 localhost kernel: linkstatus=AP_INRANGE (unhandled)

I'm running the prism2_pci drivers, and I am just sitting here (as in
not walking around. These errors seem to be causing my networking to
be very much slower than it should be. Has anyone seen this before? Is
there any information I can give you to help me debug this? Thank you
so much.

Rachel

Your radio connection is mariginal - you're too far from the
access point or the path is too obstructed. The fluctuations
in the signal strength may be caused by people and things
moving around near the radio path.

The possible cures are:

- Get an external antenna to the WLAN card and position
it to a good place,

- Get a better antenna to the access point,

- Move the computer nearer the access point,

- Move the access point nearer the computer,

- Get a new bridging access point between the computer
and the current AP.

Please note that the antenna changes may be limited by the WLAN
power limitations (here: 100 mW EIRP).
