I have a Brother wireless printer and the only way I can get workstations to
print to it is by installing the Brother installation software on each PC.
When you initially set up the Brother wireless printers, you assign a
network name for the printer and there is also a node name that is
pre-configured. So when you browse it in Windows XP through the printer
setup, you can see the printer network name, but when you click on it
Windows just stalls and doesn't even return an error message. I can't click
through to the printer (node) name. The only way around it is to use the
Brother install suite that amounts to a very lengthy process. Then it just
picks it up through a discovery process and boom, you're on. Without the
Brother disk you cannot click on the printer and have the drivers installed
to your PC.
I am still searching for a way around this, but that's all I've got for now.
