There were some issues with SMB signing [security option for digitally sing
communications] but I believe this has been fixed with SP2 for XP Pro. The
first thing to check is that your dns is configured correctly for the domain
in that your domain controller points only to itself and the domain
computers point only to the domain controller as their preferred dns server
as shown with the Ipconfig /all command. I would also look in Event Viewer
on the domain controller for any pertinent Event ID's and run the support
tool netdiag on the domain controller and at least one problem domain
computer looking for any problems. The support tools are on the install disk
for the appropriate operating system in the support/tools folder. See the
link below to make sure your dns is configured correctly for the domain.
Also since you are offering shares on the XP Pro computers, make sure that
the built in Windows Firewall is disabled on them or correctly configured
with the needed exceptions for access to shares and shared printers. ---
