Hello,
We just got road runner and everytime we print it
disconnects our network connection. We are unable to
reconnect unless we reboot. Any suggestion on what to
try? Thanks.

Is your printer and your cable modem connected via USB? If so, I recommend
hooking up your cable modem through a router.

Carey - Yes both are through a USB port. You are saying
put the modem only through the router, what will this do
for me? I am assuming it is going to help with the
traffic that is occuring while I try to print. Is this
correct? Thanks for your help!

The cable modem should have a Ethernet jack on it (looks just like a
telephone jack only slightly wider). If you have a broadband Internet
connection, which it sounds like you do, you should have some sort of
firewall protection against the bad guys out there.

Purchasing a router will allow you to keep out the bad guys (for the most
part), share your internet connection to other computers (which can access
the Internet at the same time, independently without paying an extra penny
to your provider, ever!) and will free up that USB port for your printer to
use, or a scanner if you buy one in the future.

If your computer does not have an Ethernet jack on the back of it, I
recommend you pick up a PCI Ethernet card. They cost around $15 and are
extremely simple to install.

Once you have everything, you simply plug your broadband modem into your
router and then plug your computer into your router. In most cases, no
further configuration is necessary.

Hope this helps!

Carey,
I already have two USB ports and the printer and the modem
are both connected. When I say it disconnects I mean my
network connection drops by it's self. I am on the
network with no problem and then I print something - once
I print for some odd reason my network connection drops
and I am unable to get it back unless I reboot my
computer. I don't see how a router will solve this
problem? Thanks again!

I just offered you the solution. I don't know what else to tell you at this
point.
