Printing across the internet

Dear all,

Current setup:
Linksys WRT54G connected to Blueyonder 1mb Broadband.
HP Jetdirect 3 port 10/100 printserver wired to the WRT54G.

My question is can I make the printers connected to the Jetdirect box
available to other users outside of my LAN?

Reason: The church I attend is considering - at my suggestion -
purchasing a colour laser printer to improve the quality of our printed
material. Potentially this would reside at my house, connected to the
Jetdirect box.

So can I / how do I share the printer yet restrict access to it to
known computers, and make the address of the printer easy to find given
that I do not have a static IP from blueyonder.

TIA

SteveB

You might want to look at http://www.dyndns.org, if your router supports
registering it's dynamic IP address with them.

Okay, thanks Paul, so once I've sorted out the DNS how do they locate
the printer?

Be aware that colour laser printers don't print photo's very well. A decent
inkjet will handle photo's much better. At least, from the one's I've used.

You will need to know what operating system they use and whether they
have IPP(Internet Printing Protocol)Client installed ,if they haven't
they will need to install it.
Since you have a Jet Direct print server I assume you know how to set
up LAN printing and printing via URL is not much different ,if running a
firewall you may have to open Port 631.
Google has quite a bit of info and I would have thought HP would have
provided info with the print server.
