Although the Belkin may claim to have a FW, it most likely doesn't have
one. This doesn't even account for the attack on the wireless side of the
network that the router has limited means of protecting a machine.
The router is good for stopping most general attacks, but it cannot stop
outbound traffic due to a phone home attemp by a Trojan horse and neither
can XP's FW.
At most, the router has NAT and SPI and has FW like capabilities but is
not a FW.
Yeah, you can run with just the router, if you have taken the steps to
lockdown the XP workststion, but that may not be a good idea in today's
environment, with recent events with attacks on the NT based O/S(s).
It's best to have a FW on the machines behind the router for a layered
protection approach, like the free Kerio, ZA, Outpost, Sygate, etc, etc.

The protection starts with the O/S.

You should learn how to make things on the network work with the FW.
