Printer Driver Confusion

Given: Lexmark Z55 connected to WindowsXP Pro. LAN connects another machine
running WIN98SE. Driver for WIN98SE was downloaded to the XP. Need guidance
setting up the printer via network for the 98SE.

While attempting to setup the printer from the 98SE using the printer setup
wizard, I directed the wizard to find the driver on the XP through the
network. However, the Add Printer wizard took me to Install From Disc | Open
| (I selected "Network" instead of Disc). That took me to a window labeled
"MAP Network Drive". I accepted the default "F" and explored the options for
"PATH". The closest I could come was \\OFFICE\My Files. The drivers are
located at \\OFFICE \My Files\Downloads to Scan\Lexmark\Z55 For
WIN98SE\Unzipped CJ9X55LE.exe for WIN98SE\English. which has 32 files in it
including one named "setup". Apparently, I unzipped this file but I think
that's were I stopped.

As an alternative, I used the Network Setup wizard on the XP, found the
driver, and all seemed well, though I couldn't see the printer in the list
of shared network files, folders, and printers.

I then went back to the 98SE and DID find the printer listed in the my
Network Neighborhood. But when I looked in my Printers folder, it wasn't
listed. So I clicked the Add Printer button and tried browsing the folders
described in the second paragraph. I didn't get far.

Q1) I don't know how to get to that folder on the XP. How do I get there or.
if I'm not supposed to be there. where do I go?

Q2) As an alternative, I've got the unzipped driver setting in a folder on
the 98SE. If I unzipped it and ran the printer setup wizard again from the
98SE, I'm sure I can point the wizard to the driver folder on the 98SE.
But.will the printer on the XP work if the driver is on the 98SE?

Q2 - yes, they should work fine. When installing the printer drivers for
win98 it will install on the win98 machine

The XP machine doesn't need the 98SE drivers on it. The XP machine is
acting as a print server. The only thing the XP machine needs are it's own
drivers and enough hard drive space to store print jobs in a print queue.
Install the drivers on the 98SE machine then click Add Printer and choose
Network Printer. Follow the directions of the Add Printer Wizard. If the
SE machine can't find the XP machine you've probably got some other problem
such as a firewall, incorrect workgroup, your bypassing 98SE network logon
etc.
If it were me, I'd slap an inexpensive print server on the printer and
bypass the XP machine altogether, because every time you need to print from
the SE machine the XP machine has to be turned on. You can get a dozen
different print servers from a dozen different manufacturers for under
$60.00.
