Printer Creation

I have a problem with printer creation on 2003 AD with Windows XP SP2
clients.

We were previously using the runndll32, printUI command to map to printers
on a printer server at the computer level of a startup script, and now with
the higher level of security on SP2 it is not possible to create the
printers, when the PC boots up you see it connecting to the printer, but
after the user gets logged in the print does not exist and they have to add
the printer manually.... Everytime they log in.

This is totally unacceptable when you are talking about 1000's of students
on about 750 PC's.

I have had a look around on the net and a few people have highlighted this
problem, but no one seems to be able to fix it.

Any Ideas?.

Derrick-

Have you looked at upgrading to R2 and the Print Management Console? You can
deploy printers to 2k and XP interactively via group policy.

We use kix scripts currently to add printers using AD groups which works
well.

Only, now we have a situation where we want to add printers to users
machines that do not connect to a print server - we need to add them so
they print directly to the printer with no print queue or info passing
over the wan back to a remote print server.

Any sugestions?
