Hi,

I have a home network setup. My RH8.0 system is connected to the
internet through ppp0 (through a firewall). Internal network is
connected to eth1 of Linux box. Firewall gives full access to
NEW,ESTABLISHED,RELATED connections from my internal network to my linux
box.

At present, I have only one computer(Windows98) connected to Linux box.
To the Win98(hostname Win98Comp) computer a Winprinter is attached (NEC
Superscript 660Plus). I want to print from my Linux box to that printer
(no Linux drivers are available for this printer -- the only reason I
have Win98!).

First, comments on the feasibility of this project are welcome (the
printer is shown as Paperweight in http://www.linuxprinting.org).

Then, could you suggest how to accomplish this without running Samba(if
it is possible).

Further, do I need to run a printer server on Win98 machine? If yes,
then I guess I need to find a free server

Thanks,
->HS

Just share the printer on the Win98 box (right click, choose share).

Now use smbclient to connect to the printer, see the first paragraph under OPTIONS in "info smbclient" or try "cat [filename] | smbclient //win98box/printer".

Bye, hope it works.
