Hi,
just bought a Cannon MP390 (printer, scanner, fax) it has a USB connection.
Have a Netgear FR114P with a Parallel port Printserver.
1. Question, how to connect the Cannon printer (USB) to the Netgear Router
(Parallel Port)? One solution is to buy a USB printserver but at $140 this
is an expensive fix. Don't want to share via a PC as this means have to
leave that PC on all the time.
2. I need a switch as well (running out of ports) is a possible solution a
switch with a USB printserver? Does this exist?
3. Can you get a Parallel to USB converter which will retain all the
functionality of the Cannon MP390?
4. Does anyone have any other solutions?

Rick
ps You'd think that with home LANs becoming more popular printer
manufacturers would fix this problem.

You can't do it.

If you want to use a Print Server you will need a USB Print Server such as HP's USB
JetDirect.

You won't find a Ethernet switch with a USB Print Server.

The only real solution is to place it on a Windows PC. This is your *best* option. You can
use MS File & Print Shares to share the printer on the network. The reason this is the best
way to go is that even with the scanner interface of a HP USB Print Server, you won't get
full benefit of the scanner and you won't be able to use the FAX capability. By placing the
USB printer/scanner/FAX on a PC you will have full benefit of the printer, scanner and FAX
capabilities of the Canon MP390.
