Print Server--Help with Troublesome Client

Hello--

We have one client computer in our domain that I cannot add any network
printers to. We could add them before, and she can access the print server in
other areas, i.e., shared files, ping, etc.

I get an error that the client workstation cannot connect to the printer, or
the name was typed in wrong. The client is able to add a network printer
logged onto a different workstation.

I tried flushing her DNS, renewing her IP address, power cycling her switch...

This one puzzles me. The only thing I can think of is some strange worm or
virus.

Any help would be appreciated.

sd

There is one useful application in W2k3 Resource Kit: cleanspl.exe - it
cleans up all spooler data, making it like just installed. Try it.

Would this be launched on the print server or the client machine?

hi,
if the error is related to wrong print server name check also the hosts file
from %windir%\system32\drivers\etc and check if isn't a wrong entry with the
name of server.
another thing to verify is on local policies->user rigts assignement->load
/unload device drivers if the user isn't administrator.

On the client. You don't need to install whole Resource Kit, you can
install it on one computer and copy only executable to others.

That did the trick. Thanks. I don't know what would have plugged up her print
spooler to begin with (probably Adobe Acrobat), but the tool allowed me to
install the network printers again.

I just needed to repair Adobe and our Fax server client apps by reinstalling
them, but it was a small price to pay.
