Hi,

im running a linux box with pptpd. The VPN connection works
for the Windows clients if they are pingable from the linux
box, but if they're not the connection can't be established.
Windows shows error 619, in /var/log/message I found

....
Jun 16 10:36:02 firewall pptpd[2705]: CTRL: Client 213.54.61.159 control
connect
ion started
Jun 16 10:36:02 firewall pptpd[2705]: CTRL: Starting call (launching
pppd, openi
ng GRE)
Jun 16 10:36:02 firewall pppd[2706]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Jun 16 10:36:02 firewall pppd[2706]: Using interface ppp1
Jun 16 10:36:02 firewall pppd[2706]: Connect: ppp1 <--> /dev/pts/46
Jun 16 10:36:32 firewall pppd[2706]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Jun 16 10:36:32 firewall pppd[2706]: Connection terminated.
Jun 16 10:36:32 firewall pppd[2706]: Exit.
....

Via iptraf I saw that linux tries to ping the client, is there a
option to say that "it's not necessary that the client is pingable"?

Thanks,
Simon

If the pptp client machine locates behind firewall or NAT Router,
ping can't be sent.

I think "error 619" means ppp client is not using public IP, that is
locates behind firewall or NAT router.
