Hi

I can make pppoe (verizon dsl) work with redhat 9
stock kernel as well as recompiled 2.4.20-8 kernel.

But I would like to use 2.4.22 and with this kernel
whenever ppp0 device is started the system completely
hangs -- no response from keyboard at all.

I have compiled the following modules that I believe
is needed for pppoe

ppp_async.o ppp_deflate.o ppp_generic.o ppp_synctty.o slhc.o slip.o

Also I have added pppoe module and it still hangs

Can anyone suggest something?

Thanks

Mr Zong Ming Wu

That sounds like a hardware problem, or perhaps a kernel bug, if you
have to reboot to cure it.

The PPPoE module? (If you are expecting to use kernel PPPoE rather
than RP pppoe.) You have to turn on the only compile option under
"Code maturity level options" to gain access to the PPP over Ethernet
option - that's using "make menuconfig."
