ppp slow with more then one modem

I have set up callback server (linux). It worked well
while the only one user was me. But once I created
another account on the callback server for another user.
We have noticed that when we both connect together
to the server, ppp connection is horrible slow.
Does anybody know why ?

Not without more information. Are they hardware modems using different
irqs (or same irq, or no irq). Or if external on serial ports, do those
ports have 16550A UARTs? Any errors showing up in ifconfig? Is either
using /dev/modem symlink instead of actual dev?
