I'm going to be setting up a Dell poweredge 6450 but do not have to
OpenManage software. I could not find any RAID management tools on dell.
Does anyone know if it's posible to set up the RAID config without the
Dell software. I haven't seen the server yet bur I think it has the built
in Dell controller and not an Adaptec. Thanks.

Short answer is yes. But check your box for the raid controller. You
should be able to access it directly.

If it's one of those PERC cards, then they work fine. I have about 30
Dell Poweredge 2650s, all running Debian.

The RAID can be configured from the BIOS, and also from a tool which
will run under the OS. Do a websearch for 'dellmgr'.

Cheers,

Paul

Matt site was the answer to all these questions before.

It maybe under linux.dell.com these days....

http://www.domsch.com/linux/

But I'd expect all the tools you need to be available.

Thanks for your replies. I'm probably going to be running SUSE 9.1 but
would like to set up a RAID 0 prior to installing the OS. I'll have a look
at the BIOS early next week. A small company needed a server and found the
Dell 6450 for $400. It's got 3 - 9.1 gig SCSI's and a 20 gig IDE and no
software of any kind came with it.
