Power on problem

I own an MN820 Kit with an MN700 base station

I connect to Verizon DSL thru PPPoE.

My problem is quite simple.

Everytime I power on the basestation, the connection has
to be established manually. Not by pressing the connect
button but
1. I have to 'move' the connection type from PPPoE to
something else.
2. Then I 'apply'
3. Then I revert back to 'PPPoE' - no settings lost in
the process
4. And apply again.

Now when I go to the home page, I see my ip address.

There is nothing odd in my setup. Simple dsl connection -
straight to the router. No issues with Verizon.

Why would this be the case and how do I fix this.

Why do you turn off the base station? DSL is normally "always on," so just
leave the base station/router powered up. You don't need to do the same
with your computers, just the base station.

Thanks for your response.
Thats what I do now. But when there is a power failure, I
see my friend's linksys router back in action without any
such gimickery. Though I have a working solution I need to
know why that is so.
