Power Failure Causes Lost Internet Connection

Once the power returns I can acess my wireless connection but it will not
connect to the internet. The only way I can get around it is to connect my
laptop directly to the modem and auto detect the proxey settings. Once I can
connect direct to the modem bypassing the router I then reconnect the ro0uter
and it works fine.

What could cause this?

After a power outage, it would be best to disconnect the modem (not router)
from the power, let it sit a minute or two and then plug it back in. Once
it syncs with your ISP, then power up the router. The modem needs to talk
with its source first, establish the connection, and then will be able to
pass that information along to the router.
