Apparently MANY people have problems losing internet
connectivity regardless of being connected wired or
wireless. The problem can happen after a few hours, over
night, or even under an hour... The computer's IP address
is still registered but you cannot access the internet,
the base station, or computers on the local network.
In my case, the problem lied with Emule, a P2P file
sharing program. The program makes so many connections
that eventually it locks up the base station. When I was
lucky, and able to check the base station's device log
right before it locked up, I would notice TCP/SYN
attacks. But I'm guessing that it was misinterpretting
the connections made , or being made, by Emule.
After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2, the problem
disappeared. This is because SP2 limits the amount of TCP
connections made to 10 connections, or so I've read.
So to all those that are having a similar problem, are
you running any file sharing programs? If so, see what
happens when they are turned off, or update your
computers to SP2.
Post replies to see if this only applied to me, or if it
is a common solution.
