Hi. This is likely lame-brained, but I need to discover the names of
all user PC's (non servers, all W2K or WXP) on our network and since
we use DHCP for those machines, I was thinking that DHCP might store
machine names in some database that I could dump and have a pretty
good starting point.

Is this a retarded idea or not? If not, can/how to do it? If theres a
better way to get the names without spaending money, I am all ears as
well.

1. Open the MMC for DHCP
2. Go to the Scope
3. Go to the "Address Leases" under the Scope in the Left Pane
4. Right-Click on "Address Leases" and choose "Export List"
5. Save the text file whereever you like.
6. Repeat the process for every Scope if you have more than one.
7. Repeat the process in each DHCP if there is more than one

You still may not get all since there may be points in time where a few
don't show in the list, but you should be able to get *most* of them anyway.

The same method will work for WINS in the "Active Registrations" but the
list is a little more messy.

The same method works all thoughout Active Directory to create a "text list"
of the contents of any Folder or OU.
