Guys,
"man named" does not work so I am sort of in the dark
regarding "named". Normally, when something ends in the
letter "d", I assume it is a daemon that runs all the time. In
which case "ps aux" should reveal it.

My question: is "named" a daemon?

I further suspect named has a problem, because when I
enter "named -h" the last of a dozen lines says something
like "compilation failed".

Tnx,
Charles

P.S. Tnx for the three responses I have already received.

* Read this: http://man.he.net/?topic=named&section=all

* It's a server provided by BIND package software. In fact, any server could
be considered like daemon.
