Possible to connect HP LaserJet 1000 to Linksys wireless-G printserver?

I have an HP laserjet 1000 series laserprinter that I'm trying to
connect to a linksys wireless-G printersver (model WPS54GU2) so that
all the PCs on my LAN can use it for printing. The HP is designed in
such a way that it depends on the host PC to do much of the work in
preparing the document for printing. Has anyone gotten this to work?
Or even tried and knows why it absolutely WON'T work? Thanks in
advance!

what is exact problem.

you can call Linksys tech support, if you can point out your problem.

here is linksys support site
http://www.linksys.com/support/default.asp

I setup few of Linksys printserver(epsx3, efsp42), that has no problem.
(with HP 1200, 1100,LEXMARK OPTRA, ETC..)

There are 2 way you can set to use the printer
1. Peer-to-peer printing:
need to load Print-Server driver on every machine, The printer is configured
as a local printer.

2. Client-Server Printing:
Only need Printer-Server driver on 1 machine, but the Server machine need to
be ON for all other machine to print to. (dont really need print-server for
this set-up, only need a printer to directly connect to this machine, all
other machine can print to it)

i personally like set up 1. coz every machine can print independly, and thus
the role pf the print server, setup 2 dont even need a print server unless
the printer is far away from both machine. ussuming all machine is on the
same LAN.
anyway i dont really know what exactly your problem is and what setup are
you going for? have you successfully set up to any machine yet?

I have been successful in configuring my PC to directly print to the
printer without the print server. Now I'm trying to configure
peer-to-peer printing with the print server. Let me describe the
different components involved and the results of trying to print.
Perhaps that will help.

The print server:
It has a static IP address assigned to it.
It can be reached from a browser wirelessly.
It's in infrastructure mode.
WEP is enabled.
Physical printer port 2 (USB) is identified as being connected to the
LaserJet and its status is on-line.

The PC:

The Linksys PrintServer software is installed and it created a port
called LK95834_P2 which is attached to the LaserJet printer.

The printer icon in the Start --> Settings --> Printers and Faxes
folder is configured to us the port LK95834_P2. Bi-directional
support is enabled.

Attempting to print from Windows causes the print job to appear in the
print queue with a status of "spooling" then after a moment "Error -
Printing". Disabling spooling doesn't help. The job still appears in
the queue, but goes to a status of "Error - Printing" right away.

I'm getting the feeling that it may no be a problem with the print
server not being able to see the printer, but in the way that jobs are
submitted to it. The LaserJet 1000 has a USB to serial cable which
includes some hardware built into the serial end of the cable where it
attaches to the printer that performs some document preparation
functions. The printer itself is very dumb. My guess is that the
hardware built into the cable needs to interact with the software
installed on the PC and the print server is preventing that. Anyone
know about HP printers and whether what I'm saying is true? Can the
print server allow the printer to communicate with the PC if that's
what it needs to do in order to print? Maybe I'm all wrong. Any
ideas?

Thanks in advance for your expertise and attention!

Why don't you follow Linksys instruction?
They ask defferent method on Quick install guide and user's guide.

If youn use Windows Printer setup wizard,
try install as local printer then select "Create a new port" : Type :
Standard TCP/IP Port.
then typeyour printserver IP and Port name.

Sorry I didn't see all of this, but I had to disable Bi-directional printing
to get my HP printer to work.

oki let try this, disable WEP, remove any printer that related to the
laserjet that you trying to test, for trouble shooting.
add printer>local printer>use the following port "LK95834_P2 " > have disk >
point to printer driver and install... ready to to print test page.

although you can use 1 printer as both lan and usb, but you have to add 2
seperate one and set one as default.

hope that will help
