Greetings Everyone,
I am setting up a Standard Edition 2003 with RAS for VPN, I will config it
for legacy clients and windows 2000 & xp clients ,therefor I will config VPN
for "PPTP" and L2TP w/IPsec. What port numbers are need to configure on the
firewall? The ISP controls the firewall and I have allready instructed them
to port forward 3389 to the IP of the server for RDP connectivity. Any
feedback is humbly appreciated. Thank you.

Joey :-)

quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
Which ports need to be opened for running VPN

A: PPTP VPN uses TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE); L2TP: UDP Port 1701;
IPSec: Pass IP protocol 50 and 51. Note: 47 is a protocol number and not
TCP port. The protocol name is GRE. It'll make a big difference when
configuring your firewall or router.

Hi Joe,

Since I don't have all necesary information on implementation I can only
answer in general...

GRE -- IP protocol 47
IPSec AH -- IP protocol 51
IPSec ESP -- IP protocol 50
L2TP -- UDP 1701
PPTP -- TCP 1723

NAT-T -- TCP 4500
ISAKMP -- TCP 500
