Howdy,

I'm trying to hide a Windows Server 2003 behind a firewall, but I want to
get to this server with remote desktop. What ports do I need to open up?

Thanks

Charles

hi dear,

port number 3389, but for more security i suggest u change this port number

1. Start Registry Editor.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber

3. On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
4. Type the new port number, and then click OK.
5. Quit Registry Editor.

don't forget to reply me

If you can, a more secure solution would be to establish a VPN tunnel to
the firewall, and then remotely access your W2k3 server. Otherwise, as
was suggested, change the default port via registry hack. I believe on
the client side, you simply append a :<newportnumber> after your IP address.

Why bother changing the Port number? All someone has to do is run a port
scan on you anyways.
