Port Forwarding Issue

I am trying to connect to a pc on my network from outside
of my network that is hosting a web site. I setup my
router to port forward to the ip address of the pc. I
can't get it to work. I setup port 80. What is the
difference between TCP and UDP? Are there any known
issues with doing this.

First off did you do persistent port forwarding or application triggered?

What kind of server behind the Microsoft router are you trying to
connect to (I'm assuming you know that this newsgroup is only for the
Microsoft networking hardware)?

TCP & UDP are two different protocols in the TCP/IP suite of protocols.
TCP is used when the data needs to reach it's destination no matter
what, Examples would be a FTP server & a Web Server, UDP is for when it
is ok if a packet is missed, examples would be a streaming music server
or a game server after the game has started.

The only issues I know of is many ISP's will block port 80 so that you
can't host a web site on that port & when you configure the port
forwarding wrong by either using the wrong ports, wrong type of port
forwarding, or the wrong protocol for the port forwarding.

Yeah, what Joker said. One thing you might try is running the website on a
different port. See your web server's documentation on how to do this. One
easy way you can test this is to temporarily install Shoutcast (WinAMP-based
streaming music server). By default, Shoutcast will run on port 8000 -
forward that port to the Shoutcast server and try opening the site in a
browser (http://ipaddress:8000). If you see a Shoutcast page, you know your
ISP is blocking 80. Also - this sounds obvious, I know - but you CAN
connect to the site internally, yes?

I am using persistent port forwarding. My server is
actually a pc running XP Pro. I do have a Microsoft
router. I can see the web site internally. I will
attempt to change the port.

Thanks
