Port forwarding with Dabs Value ADSL router

Hi,

First of all, apologies if this is not the correct group.

I have a Dabs Value ADSL router, PTI PAE-CE84, and I want to set it up so
that I can forward requests to my public IP to a computer on my network.

For example, say I have the IP address 127.0.0.1 as my public IP. I want
to set up port forwarding so that this IP points to 10.0.0.3:8080 on my
network.

I have tried configuring my router's Virtual Server settings, but nothing
seems to work! I know you don't have a crystal ball, but has anyone else
any idea why this isn't working, or how I can get it to work?

for a start, 127.0.0.1 won't be your public IP address (it is used to
point back to the localhost - ie your own PC) but one will be assigned

I've just checked the settings on a couple of Conexant AMX-CA64E and
the model you have (similar, but slight changes) and think you should
have no problem using the last portion of the form to set the "public
port" and "private port" to 8080, type to TCP and fill in the local IP
address of 10.0.0.3 for "host IP address". If you've done that and it
still doesn't work, maybe you could put a capture screen image on some
webspace (don't post binary to the newsgroup) and take it from there.

Yeah, I know that I was just using the loopback as an example IP number.

That's what I have tried (although in this case I used 8335 as the port
number). I know that the ISP is not blocking any ports, so it must be the
router...

Hi,
I suspect you've already tried this, but have you saved the settings and
rebooted the router? For this router, the settings won't take affect until
they are saved and the router rebooted.

Yup. Saved and rebooted, tested, didn't work many times. Incidentally, I
was testing from a machine external to the network in case you are
wondering that too.

Another dumbo question, but are you running any sort of firewall, e.g ZA or
Xp's own?

And what software do you have listening to this port? I get connection
refused if I try to connect with a browser.

Nope, no other firewalls just the NAT provided by the router.

It's a webserver. The port shows as closed if I do a port scan using the
"Shields up" website, so the router isn't even opening the ports that I
tell it to...
