Hi All

Just installed Win2003 Server Standard Edition (previously used Win2000
Server) .Setup as a printserver running a RIP software. This software works
via TCP so within the program you connect to the printer using the IP
address and it sets up printing via port 9100.

The RIP processes but when it comes to print it says "cannot open port". I
swapped back to Win2000 and its fine and I setup both the same only the
Windows version is different. Is there anything switched on by default that
prevents printing to port 9100? or anything I can check?

Cheers
Paul

Hi,

There should not be anything that would block 9100 by default. I would
suggest using a port query tool to see if something else is listening on
the port.

You can use portqry.exe -

Hi Matthew

THanks for the reply. Couldn't see anything with the tool so I jumped back
to Win2000 Server and back up and running, will try again when I have more
time and see why it doesn't work.

Cheers
Paul
